I’m here to tell you that you can learn ways to make the money online relatively and quickly. It’s not always going to be easy though, so you’ll have to work hard, struggle through making some mistakes, so learn from your weaknesses along the way.
USUALLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1. DOES MAKING MONEY ONLINE COME EASY?
This depends on what you want it to be. If you’re looking to earn $50 or $100 online fairly quickly, then there’s plenty of ways to do that (like selling your skills as a service). Nonetheless, starting to make thousands of dollars online quickly isn’t easy, because that requires a healthy measure of hard work (and time).
Here’s the reality; the Web has opened up so many opportunities for people regardless of age, place, or background to create a profitable, online company or side project that can make extra money online every single month. And like I said, I’ve had this first-hand experience.
For the past several years, I’ve been on a mission to experiment with the best ways to create sustainable online income and chase my dreams of self-employment. And while I’ve seen my fair share of success, things haven’t always been easy either.
Here’s a simple truth:
The only ways to make money online in any lasting manner, involve putting in real time, effort, blood, sweat, and tears.
It is not to frighten you off. I just want you to know that this guide will concentrate primarily on ways to offer actual, sustainable online extra income. Not just a few fast dumps. I want to share all the mistakes I made that brought me to where I am now so you don’t have to go through them and develop yourself a productive online source of income.
Don’t get me wrong, there are still plenty of great ways online today to make money. It is that a lot more was selected from the most popular ideas than they were a couple of years ago. To stand out, you need to be clever, look for the best opportunities, and be creative about how you approach online making money.
Here are some creative ways to monetize your skills and knowledge and make money online within a few weeks.
1. START A PODCAST AND MAKE MONEY FROM SPONSORSHIPS
One of the easiest ways to make money online within a few weeks or months is to start a Podcast and make money from sponsorship. Podcasts are for people who are comfortable enough to stay in front of a microphone!
How much can you earn:
The industry norm for podcast sponsorships begins at $18 per 1,000 listeners for pre-roll sponsorships (at the start of the show), $25 for mid-roll sponsorships (somewhere in the middle of the show episode), and $10 for post-roll sponsorships (at the end of the podcast) – so the earnings will depend on how famous your podcast is. And, another way of making money out of podcasting is to promote affiliate items.
Podcast start-up costs:
While you can theoretically start doing it for free, if you’re serious about podcasting it’s worth getting some equipment to make sure the sound is up to date; luckily, because podcasting is so popular right now, there are plenty of podcasting kits that you can buy that includes anything you need (microphone, headphones, etc.) and it can cost between $100 and $1,000 anywhere (but you can certainly get the job done).
Podcasting can be a great way to make money if you love to talk
– especially with other people too.
Like you’ve seen before, you can start making money from podcasting once you have a decent fan base for each of your shows, and it’s going to take some time to bring your podcast to that point before you can start earning from that.
But once you get to a certain point, you can make the podcasting a lot of money. For example, look at Entrepreneurs On Fire; they produced $521,558 gross income for the first three months of 2020, most of which comes from sponsorships for their EOFire podcast (77%, to be exact):
So, there’s certainly room – and podcasting is at a stage where it’s still rising worldwide in popularity, not even saturated.
But just like with blogging earlier, you need to pick a good niche, one with a lot of potentials. Plus, if you want your podcast to grow and get more listeners with every episode, then you need to spend a lot of time promoting it.
If you’re thinking of going the podcasting route,
here are some tips to help you pick a good niche and get started with podcasting:
- Create a list about what you know, what you can do, what you’re passionate about, your skills and experience, and use it to create a shortlist of the podcast ideas you’d like to do (in need to be something you’re familiar with and have a nice time talking about).
- Do some competitive research: look up and listen to the most popular podcasts in your categories; what subjects do they cover? How is it that makes them special? Why do people love them so much?
- Select a podcast format: by listening to other popular podcasts in the area you’d like to go in, you’ll also get a better understanding of the formats you can use for it.
- Think of the future: is there enough material there to create dozens – nay, hundreds! – of podcast episodes?
2. START A BLOG AND MONETIZE IT
This is something that anyone can try, whether you just want to make a few extra bucks a month or want to build a small fortune. Plus, there are so many lucrative niches out there that there’s an option for pretty much anybody.
How much you can earn from starting a blog depends on your niche and (largely) on the work you’re willing to put in. That being said, bloggers make anywhere from a few hundred dollars a month to $1 million + (just google blog income reports to check for yourself if you don’t believe me!)
Start-up costs of a blog:
It could be completely free to start a blog. But if you want to build a blog that’s making money, you’ll need to make a few small investments – less than $50-100 / month for hosting, plugins and software you’ll need to manage and grow your blog business. You will also find plenty of free solutions to help you get started, but I think you need to invest in some professional resources to help you develop if you want to create a productive business out of your blog
It is probably one of the strongest long-term ways to make money online. And it’s perfect for just about anyone – to get started, you don’t even need to be an amazing writer (there’s an easy fix: get a freelancer to write for you!).
However, it’s important to recognize the fact that blogging is something that you need to work on consistently and regularly (every day!) if you want to generate enough traffic to start making money.
And if you want to be one of those bloggers who make a killing from blogging (i.e. over $5-10k a month), then you’ll need to put in a lot of work.
Another very important element is the niche you choose for your blog; you need to find a lucrative niche, one that has a large audience – and an audience that has enough buying power.
It is especially important if you want your blog to continue rising and your earnings to increase.
Even your niche should be something you’re familiar with; a subject you’re familiar with (and ready to know more constantly!).
So think about your talents, your interests, your hobbies, your past work, and once you’ve got some subject ideas for your blog, start exploring your audience’s potential:
THINGS TO ENGAGE IN FOR THE SUCCESS OF YOUR BLOG
- Look up popular blogs in that niche and check their websites to see what products and services they’re selling: if they’re successful and selling a combination of both low-ticket (like selling an online course, for example) and high-ticket products (such as consulting services), then you’re definitely on to something good
- Make a list of keywords that people would use to search for a blog like this; then, use the SEMRushkeyword research tool to look up these keywords and find out what their search volume is (ideally, look for keywords that generate upwards of 50k average monthly searches):
- long keywords – or phrases – like the one used in the above screenshot: “how to create an app”) – this is to help you get in relevant search results and get more targeted, organic traffic
As for monetizing your blog, you have a plethora of options to choose from; one very important thing to remember though is that you should try to set up multiple income streams by creating several products and services.
Here are some ideas:
- Create digital products such as e-books, online courses, and webinars
- Offer services, such as consulting for businesses and bloggers, mentoring and coaching
- Promote affiliate products on your blog and to your email list and make a percentage of every sale made when someone clicks your links
- Get paid for sponsored content and for reviewing products and services on your blog
That being said, there are too many options to go through here; that’s why I’ve written a 15k-word guide on how to make money blogging which goes through each strategy and shows you how much you can potentially make from each one.
3. BECOME A FREELANCER
The easiest way to make money online is by providing your services online as a freelancer if you already have a marketable ability. Digital marketplaces are abundant where you can sell your services. These range from well-known platforms such as Fiverr and Upwork to niche-specific sites.
Freelance writing is a perfect way of making money online. To set up your online presence a certain amount of effort is needed. If you don’t have a portfolio already, the best way to get gigs published is through freelance marketplaces or middleman agencies like Copify.
If you speak more than one language, you could set yourself up as a translator. Businesses need to be able to communicate, and there is a need for translators.
Other common freelancing sectors include work as a programmer, graphic designer, or customer service operator. Among the three, the most well-paid is the software. Most businesses want independent contractors to arrange fixed-term contracts for them.
If you are familiar with an in-demand programming language, setting yourself up in that niche is easy. A combination of foreign recruiting agencies and word-of-mouth is your best chance for seeking work as a freelance coder.
4. CREATE A YOUTUBE CHANNEL
If you fancy yourself as a presenter it has never been easier to start a video site. You can set up a video channel that is geared to just about any niche. You will find plenty of people making a respectable income playing all-day video games or just unwrapping items.
To content marketers, Vimeo, YouTube, Metacafe, and Instructables are all popular channels. Here’s a nice guide with lots of tips to help build your YouTube channel.
5. ENGAGE IN AFFILIATE MARKETING
Through referring customers to a product or service, affiliate marketing is where you make money. In the US the affiliate marketing industry’s revenue is expected to reach $6.8 billion by 2020.
In almost every niche you can find affiliate marketing deals. One of Amazon’s largest affiliate platforms is. You can also find sales on sites such as Clickbank, JV Zoo, though, as well as being able to browse direct offers.
6. USE YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA SKILLS TO MANAGE BUSINESSES’ SOCIAL MEDIA
Another of the smart ways to make money online is by using your social media skill to manage the social media of other businesses. If you’re good at social media, this is perfect for you – especially if you have some social proof in the form of engaged followers and likes and comments.
Your earnings depend on your experience but one client will pay upwards of $50 for a week’s worth of work (with only one or 2 posts a day so not a lot of work on your part!); if you can get a client who wants full-time social media management (several social networks with 1-2 posts a day for one month), you can make upwards of $300 a month, from one client (and you’ll have enough time to handle several clients in a month)
There are no start-up costs! But if you’re serious about this career, you might want to invest in a social media scheduling tool and a graphic design tool like Canva to help you create visuals as easily and as quickly as possible (still, it will cost you less than $50 a month)
Business often outsources their social media to freelancers; they rarely need someone full-time (unless they’re a bigger company) so outsourcing it to freelancers makes more financial sense for them.
And the best part is, this is something that a lot of people can do, especially if you were born in the era of social media and used it for personal purposes for years.
With companies, of course, the approach is different; you need to bear in mind what their strategic strategies are, what the organization is doing and what they are selling, and what their organizational culture is, and you can keep them updated accordingly.

7. OFFER SEO SERVICES
Offering SEO services is one of the easiest ways to make money online as many businesses are now aware of the need to boost their rankings and increase their organic traffic.
The most qualified to earn from this are search engine experts (or those willing to learn to become experts!).
You can earn as much $1,000 to $2,000 a month, per customer – SEO services are in high demand worldwide as they help provide businesses with much-needed exposure to their target audience.
Under $100 a month; the main thing you need is a reliable SEO software that helps you to inspect websites, study keywords and start backlinking campaigns; also, if you’re providing backlinking services, you’ll need an email outreach tool to help speed up the process (provided you don’t have to run your backlinking campaigns too long!).
As I mentioned a couple of paragraphs ago, SEO services are in extremely high demand and companies (and some bloggers and online publications, incidentally) are also willing to pay quite a bit to boost their rankings and increase their organic traffic.
And the best part is, SEO is very much here to stay – as long as we have the internet, we will be looking for the stuff we need online. This could change – more people would possibly start using voice search, for example – but the values would stay the same.
And successful SEO can make a big difference to the success of a company or website; while social media, for example, for most companies, does not offer much ROI (return on investment),
SEO can offer tremendous benefits:
- More local traffic, boosting search engine rankings
- More sales, since strong SEO would mean more targeted traffic
- Visits to the brick-and-mortar pages (this is when the local SEO arrives)
- Enhanced domain authority, of particular value for online publishers and bloggers who rely on their organic traffic to monetize their websites/blogs
For those who don’t know SEO, I’ve got good news: everyone can learn on their own, from the comfort of their own home.
All you need to do is sign up for an Udemy course – this is one of the top courses, for example, that goes through all the SEO concepts you need to learn to get started:
You can learn at your speed with on-demand videos / online courses, articles and other downloadable resources; and if you choose to specialize in a certain form of SEO – such as technical SEO, local SEO, backlinking campaigns (this is arguably one of the most sought-after, by the way) – you can further develop your skills by taking another course that specializes in a certain strategy.
Just use Udemy to find awesome courses
When you’re ready to start selling your SEO services, you can use freelancer platforms like Fiverr to advertise your services and get clients.
As I mentioned earlier, you’ll also need some tools to help you offer these services; my recommendation is SEMRush because you get:
- A-Pro keyword research tool:
- Site audit tool and on-page SEO checker
- Position tracking for websites/keywords
- Numerous link building tools, including backlink analytics for any website and a few different link building tools to help you find backlink opportunities:
And essentially, you can use it for almost every SEO project and for building links.
When you want to provide connection building services, then it’s a good idea to get an outreach tool because you’re going to need to contact thousands of people every month that’s almost impossible to do manually. Therefore, management is going to be a nightmare.
The far better approach is to get help from a platform like Buzzstream! you would be able to send all these emails automatically, as well as handle the responses more effectively.
8. OFFER WEB DESIGN OR WEB DEVELOPMENT SERVICES
If you know web design or web development, then you’ve got a highly marketable skill! that businesses (and other people who want to start a website) will be willing to pay a lot of money to get.
Business owners are willing to pay a lot of money for a good-looking website that performs well; in fact, you can expect upwards of $3,000 per project! (and a lot more for some projects, depending on the work involved)
You’ll be paying any extra costs from the fee you get paid for each website you make.
So, if you know web design or web development, use platforms like Flexjobs and Upwork to advertise your services and start getting clients.
9. CREATE AN ONLINE COURSE
Creating online courses is another way to make money online by teaching! only setting up your online course around a subject in which you are an expert. And this is how it operates. You sign up with a company like Udemy! they’re one of the best — and have a look at their options for course development. Udemy, for example, has got a segment called “Become a Teacher.”
You can schedule your course from there, and create videos and other educational material. You can build pretty much anything around a course. Whatever you are an expert at, everything from business and marketing to photography to personal development. Below are some examples of what affects students on Udemy at the moment:
You make a profit every time that someone signs up for your course. While the rate of success varies! I’ve heard of many people making a solid passive income by creating an online course. The great thing about it is that on these sites there’s a built-in audience! enabling you to meet millions of potential students.

10. OFFER VOICE OVER SERVICES
Rendering Voice over services is one of the interesting ways to make money online. This niche is for folks with a “radio voice” (hint! record yourself and ask for an honest opinion from your friends).
You can make upwards of $30 for recording about 100 words of voice-over.
Start-up costs for voice over services:
You will need professional equipment to record your voice to make sure it sounds great; look for podcasting kits as they contain all you need to get started! they will cost between $100 to $1,000 anywhere
There’s a really big demand for voice over services worldwide for all sorts of reasons:
- Audiobooks (that can be a lucrative gig as e-books tend to have 20k words or more)
- Internal projects (for example, creating corporate videos, director’s cuts, and so on)
However, you need more than just a good voice – you also need some acting abilities to express emotion.
If you think you’ve got what it takes to get started though, you can easily start by advertising your voice over services and finding clients using a platform like Fiverr.
Now that you’ve made it to the end of this very long guide on ways to make money online! it’s pretty clear that you don’t need a time machine to go back into the ’90s! to start making money online.
There are plenty of possibilities for almost every level of ability, experience, and age! and even the level of participation from your part and the amount you want to make.
When you want to make a little extra money each month, there are plenty of choices to choose from.
If you want to make a living by working full time from your jammies, go for it! you have the opportunities, it is up to you to take them.
And if you want to make tens of thousands of dollars every month! you can: you’ll just need to work extra hard to do it.
