DOG FOOD PRODUCTS THAT MAKES DOGS GROW BIG AND HEALTHY
DOG FOOD PRODUCTS THAT MAKES DOGS GROW BIG AND HEALTH
Dogs, particularly when blessed with healthy skin and lustrous fur, are a pleasure to pet, even though certain dogs are afflicted with health issues, such as itchy, flaking fur, and lusty coats due to unhealthy dog food products.
How would you do to restore safety and glittering coat to your dog?
Sanitary fats play a vital role in keeping the dog in good health. Fortunately, due to nutritional deficiencies, few dogs are unsafe although veterinarians sometimes see these problems.
“With the ready availability of quality dog food products, it is very difficult for a pet to have a nutritional deficiency of any kind,” says Wendy Brooks, DVM, a diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners.
Reputable commercial dog foods products typically contain enough nutrients, including essential fatty acids, to maintain good health, healthy skin, and a shiny coat.
Therefore, below are some quality dog food products that would make your dog grow big and healthy.
1. Omega-6 for Dog Coat Care
Omega-6 made it to the top of the list of the most effective dog food products. Luckily most dog foods products are very high in omega-6 [fatty acids].
They can be effective in just giving the coat shine, bringing back some luster, and helping to remove the skin oils.
Omega-3 fatty acids can also help dogs suffering from skin disorders.
Omega-3’s have more positive effects on skin problems.
They have very good anti-inflammatory effects, so we use them for dogs that have allergies or other inflammatory skin diseases.
All great choices are lean ground beef, ground chicken, ground white or dark meat turkey, & ground pork. Only make sure that any meat you feed on your pets is seasoning-free when you purchase.
The brown rice has all the fiber still intact from the rice grain hull and is easily digestible, making it a great ingredient for homemade dog food. Other grains such as oats, quinoa, and even whole-grain pasta are also easy to digest. Although gluten grains may also be included in a dog’s diet, it is important to note that gluten is one of the top 5 dog allergens. Throughout the years, gluten has become a major concern in our personal experience with Hooch causing him extreme gastrointestinal pain and we avoid it.
Eggs are among the top 5 dog allergens and the yolks are very high in phosphorus-which you want to limit to kidney disease in dogs. But also, eggs are one of the highest quality protein forms you can feed your pet! In the end, a hard-boiled egg is Hooch’s favorite thing on the planet so we chose to leave them in his food with our vet’s approval.
My dogs really love fresh shredded carrots and fennel, so I use them if I have any of them on hand, but there are tons of other great dog-friendly vegetables as well! Frozen veggie blends containing peas, corn, carrots, and green beans are a wonderful color choice of dog food products loved by our dogs! Cooked sweet potatoes are a great addition to bulking up their meals too, just never feed your dog with raw sweet potatoes as they can cause serious blockages! Could 100 percent pumpkin, not filling the pie with squash, is another perfect addition to the regular meal for your dog. A tablespoon or two mixed in each feeding truly increases their intake of fiber and can work wonders for the digestive system of your dog!
You’ll want to drizzle a couple of tablespoons of an oil rich in Omega 3’s into every batch of dog food that you produce. Generally, I only stick with olive oil or safflower oil because they’re usually on hand and inexpensive. There are also great Omega oil blends on the market which contain Omega’s 3,6, & 9 but they tend to be a bit more price.
Lots of dried, fresh herbs are great for dogs! The curly, not flat-leaf, parsley variety is great for the preventive health of the kidneys. For the tissues it is cleaning (which should help prevent disease). For a dog with an actual diagnosis of kidney disease, however, you might want to limit their parsley consumption altogether. Herbs like cilantro, thyme, or basil are tasty choices that are filled with health benefits for your pup too!
8. Raw Eggs
For many years we’ve been conditioned to fear raw eggs, but did you know that eggs are almost a complete nutritional source for your dog when eaten with their shells? Eggs are a big source of selenium, iron, vitamin A, riboflavin, fatty acids, vitamin B12, and folate.
While eggs can’t be used as the main source of nutrition for your dog, most dogs consume them fine several times a week. And remember to feed them raw if you destroy as much of the nutrients of the egg as cooking can.
For some excuse, if you can’t feed your dog’s bone, drying and grinding eggshells in a coffee grinder is a perfect way for your dog to acquire essential minerals such as calcium in a homemade diet. If you do so, be sure to buy an organic farmer’s eggs. Big consumer companies use a chemical to spray eggshells and make them shiny and entice us to buy them at the supermarket. You don’t want the dog to ingest toxins like that.
9. Goat Milk
Goat’s milk is known as the “common milk” for dogs and because of the small size of its molecules, is the most digestible dog food products available. If your dog has problems with bovine dairy, goat’s milk is another alternative that appears to be more hypoallergenic than cow’s milk and is better tolerated.
Since raw goat’s milk has probiotics that occur naturally, it has all the benefits that probiotics provide in a very simple to absorb form. Give goat’s milk a try if your dog has digestive problems! Goat’s milk is another great way to get your pet hydrated too!
There’s been a lot of talk about the amino acid lately, taurine! Most people are looking for ways to add extra taurine to their pet’s diet and sardines are a perfect source of taurine. These are also a very good source of essential omega-3 fatty acids for good health. I love sardines, because they’re a small, lived, short fish. This means they have less time to accumulate toxins in their bodies, and they don’t consume bigger, older, toxin-accumulating fish. So the fish are fairly “clean.”
11. Bone Broth
One of my favorite aspects of bone broth is that it brings to your dog’s diet much needed hydration. For dogs who eat dry, dehydrated, or freeze-dried dog food products, this is particularly important. Water is very good for health and most dogs and cats don’t drink enough.
12. Fresh Vegetables
Pureed veggies are recommended dog food products addition to raw diets for many, many years until recently when the importance of vegetables for dogs has been questioned. I have wavered back and forth myself but have decided that the antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals found in raw, pureed veggies are of benefit to my dogs.
13. Apple Cider Vinegar
I use Pebbles apple cider vinegar dog food products for my dogs, but that may not be the case for every dog! Pebbles has regurgitation problems that we were unable to figure out the cause (just brings up a little something, and then gulps it back down). Occasionally she vomits, and 9/10 the vomit is bone fragments from her food that suggest she has not enough stomach acid to digest the bone.
I recently learned that the commonly used drug, Benedryl, can upset stomach acidity. When I heard this, a little light bulb went on for me. Pebbles has been taking Benedryl for allergic reactions to bug bites her whole life! Could this be the reason for her bouts of acid reflux, or regurgitation, or whatever it is? (no vet has been able to diagnose it)
Since most dogs are on carbohydrate-laden dry foods, their digestive tracts are too alkaline. Apple cider vinegar can help lower the PH in their stomachs, bringing back into balance. This of course helps with healthy digestion.
